Police Officer Reprimanded for "Misgendering" Mentally Ill Man as a Man.
Take a good long look at the picture above. Is this a man or a woman?
If you said "man," you'd be correct. Every single cell in his body (with the exception of some of his sperm cells) is male.
However, if you happen to be a Fort Lauderdale police officer, you'd also be in trouble for your assessment.
Earlier this year, 48-year-old Florida resident Shelby Kendall was stopped by a police officer for reckless driving. Kendall handed over his driver's license, which identified him as a female, and communicated with the officer in a soothing baritone.
Reasonably enough, the officer thought the female notation on Kendall's license was an error, so on the traffic citation, he noted the driver's gender as male.
What happened next is asinine. From the Sun Sentinel:
Somebody please inform Kendall that drag racing is not very lady-like behavior.
The officer in question has received a formal written reprimand and the entire Fort Lauderdale police force will undergo additional training, not just to recognize mental illness, but to play along.
If gender dysphoria is now officially encouraged and sanctioned, it may also be a good idea for officers to undergo additional crisis training to address the 40% suicide rate exhibited by those afflicted with the disorder.
It remains to be seen how the department will address individuals that believe the CIA is broadcasting secret messages through their toaster-oven.
Stay alert. Stay alive.
