Spoiled Democratic Legislator Loses Her Mind When Stopped by Police Officer

There's something uniquely satisfying yet horrific about the nature of Democratic entitlement. As we've previously covered, the common refrain is "Do as I say, not as I do," but there's another element to the progressive mindset — an undying commitment to the "poor me" mentality.

Police dashcam footage has been released of a traffic stop that took place earlier this year. It demonstrates several truths leftists ignore, specifically regarding their contempt for police and pure, unbridled sense of entitlement:

The footage, taken in Ulster County, NY, highlights key moments of a traffic stop that originally lasted over thirty minutes. It shows a woman being stopped by Officer Gary Short for a speeding violation, although upon contact, she admits to talking on her cellphone while driving.

Over the course of the video, Officer Short demonstrates saint-like levels of patience as the woman tearfully tries every trick in the book, including:

  • Faking a panic attack (hyperventilation and all) and claiming PTSD
  • Claiming to be completely broke (while sitting in a Prius with a roof rack and clutching a smartphone)
  • Threatening to record the conversation (which was already being recorded)
  • Claiming she was forced to speed by other cars
  • Claiming the officer said he singled her out
  • Claiming that she "doesn't feel safe anymore" (after the previous excuses failed)
  • Claiming she works "24 hours a day" to support her family (dubious at best)

Hilariously, all of the woman's attempts to weasel out of a citation ultimately backfires. Officer Short explains that he initially intended to cut her a break, but decided instead to cite her for speed (in all likelihood thanks to her rude behavior).

Perhaps unsurprisingly, the woman was later identified as Jennifer Schwartz Berky,
an elected County Legislator for Ulster County.

Berky's official county profile lists her party affiliations as "Democrat, Green, Working Families." A news article from the beginning of this year detailed her participation in the New York Women's march, carrying a sign with a quote from former President Obama. Despite her claims of poverty, Berky owns a consulting business and somehow managed to retain multiple lawyers in an attempt to have the footage of the traffic stop suppressed.

From Hudson Valley One:

Berky’s lawyers sought to suppress the dash cam on the grounds that it would compromise her chances for a fair trial. The town board, acting on the advice of the state’s Freedom of Information office and town attorney Jason Kovacs, voted 4-0 Tuesday night to release the tape. Councilman Joel Brink was absent.

Town supervisor Jim Quigley had ruled that only those who had FOILed the dash cam would receive copies. Berky requested a copy, but was not in attendance during the 30-minute special town-board meeting. Recipients of the tape are free to distribute it as they choose.

Berky was due in town court on June 14, but did not appear and did not contact the court. She did not appear for hearings in July or August. Her attorneys represented her at town board meetings on October 16 and 23. Berky has a trial date in town court, if she so chooses, for November 20.

Joe O’Connor, Berky’s lawyer at the special session, told the town board that releasing the video might expose the town to “hundreds of requests” for such videos at an expense (with police officers appearing in court) of “hundreds of thousands of dollars.”

This is what you can expect when you have Democrats representing you. Immature, whiny child-like behavior, concerned with nothing but their own gain. The irony here is that even though Berky's lawyers claim that releasing the footage could influence her status as a County Legislator, Berky tried to use her position to influence the police officer.

From the Daily Freeman:

When Short returns to the vehicle, Berky says she has post-traumatic stress disorder and begins saying she was singled out for enforcement.

When Short asks if she’ll listen to him, Berky responds: “Yes, I will listen to you, and you’re not going to let me go even though I’m a county legislator and I always do everything right and I follow the law and I was at the same pace as every other car.”

This is how an elected Democrat behaves, and it isn't uncommon or rare. Coincidentally, Berky will be up for re-election next month. We'll see if voters have wised up by then or not.
