OOPS: Man Breaks into Car — Filled with Cops

In law enforcement, there's a saying: "We don't catch the smart ones." Stephen Titland is certainly not one of the smart ones.

A new report released today details how Titland, a 49-year-old Tampa residents, chose the wrong vehicle to burgle earlier this month.

From the Miami Herald:

Surveillance video captured a man trying to burglarize a number of vehicles along a residential block of a suburban neighborhood in Tampa earlier this month. The man was stymied each time. All the doors were locked.

The next day, 49-year-old Stephen Titland, who was on felony probation for a burglary and criminal mischief conviction in Pinellas County, was more successful. He found an unlocked vehicle on Murrow Street in New Port Richey.

But what he found inside wasn’t to his liking. The vehicle was occupied by members of the Pasco Sheriff’s Office’s Strategic Targeted Area Response Team, WFTS’ ABC Action News in Tampa Bay reported.

The Pasco Sheriff’s Office posted a still from the video on Thursday and identified the suspect as Titland on its Facebook page.

It takes a special kind of stupid to attempt burglaries while on felony probation for burglary. Thankfully, no one else lost their property to this ditzy no-gooder.

Here's the official statement from the Pasco County Sheriff's Office:

On 11/14/17, several home owners captured a male suspect on video as he attempted to burglarize 7 vehicles on Hawbuck Street in Trinity Oaks. Fortunately, all vehicle doors were locked and nothing was stolen.

On 11/15/17, Stephen Titland (8/12/68) attempted to burglarize an unmarked Pasco Sheriff’s Office vehicle on Murrow Street in New Port Richey. This vehicle was occupied by the STAR team during the incident and Titland was arrested.

ILP Analysts observed the similarities of the Trinity Oaks Spree suspect to Titland. Property Crimes Detectives positively identified and then arrested Titland for all 7 attempted burglaries.

One less scumbag roaming our streets.

Stay alert. Stay alive.
