City Officials in San Francisco Ignore Crime in Favor of a Neutered Police Force
Despite a $10 billion annual budget, San Francisco holds the dubious distinction of having the highest property crime rate per capita in the U.S.
Among other issues, such as escalators literally caked with fecal matter (requiring hazmat clean-up), a homeless epidemic and an uptick in homicides last year, many of these problems can be easily solved with a proactive police department. Alas, this will not happen thanks to a corrupt administration headed by leftist Mayor Ed Lee (who was nearly indicted by the FBI in 2011).
In a city under Democrat control, optics will always win out. In this case, the police are the scapegoat, not the solution. Homicidal criminals must be made into martyrs and the police de-fanged, called upon only when someone needs to be blamed, as was the case with ousted SFPD Chief Greg Suhr.
On Friday, city officials began looking into SFPD's performance. No, not how effective they were at addressing out-of-control crime, but whether or not their hands were tied enough. From the SF Examiner:
Leftists cannot seem to fathom that perhaps in a city where criminals are coddled by such lax policies as Prop 47 and 57 (which reduced penalties and allowed for earlier prisoner release respectively), crime would see an increase. As criminals become emboldened to take on a largely defenseless populace, instances of violence requiring police response will naturally rise as well. When it comes to police encounters, here's a tip: if you don't want the police to shoot you, don't commit crimes.
When crime runs rampant, the solution is proactive policing, not a campaign to take away their ability to enforce the law. As long as Democrats are in power, no one is truly safe.
Stay alert. Stay alive.
