"We're Hispanic. We're Cool By Default": Racist Anti-Drug Billboard Slammed by Critics
A controversial billboard in Yakima, Washington has been removed over allegations that its message is "racist" and "lame."
The anti-drug advertisement, which was paid for by the State Department of Health, reads "We don’t need pot to have fun. We’re Hispanics. We’re cool by default" and features a sunny group of smiling Hispanic teenagers.
The Blaze has more:
Despite the cringe-worthiness of the advert, perhaps it has its merits. After all, 2012 study conducted in Washington State revealed that 25% of Hispanic youths in 10th grade used marijuana at least once in the past 30 days.
Still, the notion that you are cool or praise-worthy by merit of your skin color alone is completely idiotic. We can't choose our ethnicity anymore than we can choose whether the laws of physics applies to us. Society has devolved to the point where you get credit for an identity you had no hand in creating. Praise becomes meaningless when the minimum requirement is your racial identity.
From the same article:
16-year-old Kate Pizano is exactly right about the implication. The same 2012 study showed that Hispanic adults accounted for just 3% of marijuana use state-wide.
Looks like the government missed its mark. No surprise there.
Stay alert. Stay alive.
