Socialism in America: Virginia House Candidate Calls for $26.80 Minimum Wage

The leftist power structure depends on a steady stream of self-created issues that can never be fixed.

No matter how many affirmative action initiatives are launched, America is still deeply racist. No matter how many 'carbon credits' are issued, the world is still on the brink of disaster. No matter how many firearm restrictions are passed, guns are still the issue, not their owners. There is no pleasing the left short of total and complete dominance.

The same concept applies to minimum wage increases. From RedState.com:

If you ever needed a reminder as to just how insane the Green Party is, look no further than Virginia’s new House candidate, Montigue Magruder.

Magruder is your typical socialist. According to his “peep the platform” page despises corporations, wants to eat the rich, and make you pay for labor unions to operate.

He also wants to jack up the minimum wage to $26.80, a height that even Bernie Sanders hadn’t the stones to suggest to his followers. Magruder was recently shown on video at a campaign rally promoting his proposed skyrocketing of the minimum wage to cheers from the crowd.

“And I want everybody to take the time, after you leave here, take the time to research on all your candidates, wherever you live. Wherever you live, you got to find out who’s running for office and who’s running in your area. Who’s supporting raising the minimum wage,” said Magruder. “I, for example, support raising the minimum wage to 26 dollars and 80 cents per hour. Because we all know this ladies and gentleman, 15 dollars an hour is just a start, it’s not enough, especially here in Richmond.”

In 2012, leftists and socialists united under the banner of Fight for 15, a movement demanding that the minimum wage be raised to $15 per hour. The amount is completely arbitrary — in keeping with the tradition of 'enough is never enough,' it was only a matter of time before another increase was demanded even as entry-level workers suffer. As long as businesses make any profit, socialists will demand it be taken away and redistributed.

Minimum wage hikes have devastated local employers and workers in Seattle, Los Angeles, San Francisco and New York, to name a few.

If a $15 per hour minimum wage isn't working, then it's asinine to think an increase to $26.80 will actually help.

In a debate over three years ago, conservative commentator Ben Shapiro pointed out the idiocy of such socialist policies, saying:

“I’m wondering exactly what the minimum wage should be. Why $15? Why not $35? Why not $55? Why not $100? If we’re going to be ideologically consistent about all of this — I would fight for a one thousand dollar minimum wage because I want to see leftist policies implemented in the cities so that people actually recognize what impact they have.”
— Ben Shapiro on the arbitrary and damaging nature of minimum wage

No need for that, Ben. We're already seeing the effects now — and if the effects aren't apparent enough, socialists like Montigue Magruder will step in to help it along.

Stay alert. Stay alive.
