Politics Supersedes Science: University Bans Transgender Research Because It Could "Offend People"

One of the most damaging aspects of leftist propaganda is the notion that mental illness should be encouraged rather than treated. This is especially apparent in the case of individuals suffering from gender dysphoria — a condition linked to a staggering 40% suicide rate.

Individuals suffering from transgenderism are regularly discouraged by the left from seeking proper mental health treatment for their symptoms. Instead, they are encouraged to exacerbate them with hormone treatment and even gender reassignment surgery. This is akin to telling a schizophrenic that the voices she hears are real.

Of course, it is the mentally vulnerable that suffers in the name of political power.

From Newsweek:

A 2015 study of 118 individuals diagnosed with gender dysphoria found that 29.6 percent were also found to have dissociative disorders and a high prevalence of lifetime major depressive episodes (45.8 percent), suicide attempts (21.2 percent) and childhood trauma (45.8 percent).

It also noted that differentiating between a diagnosis of dissociative disorder and gender dysphoria is difficult because the two can closely resemble each other.

Another study found a “surprisingly high prevalence of emotional maltreatment” in the 41 transgender persons studied. It called for further investigation to clarify the effects of traumatic childhood experiences and the correlation between transgenderism and dissociative identity.

The phenomenon isn't new either; it was in play 36 years ago. In 1979 Dr. Charles Ihlenfeld, who worked alongside the famous Dr. Harry Benjamin for six years administering hormone therapy to some 500 transgenders, spoke to an audience in New York about his experience:

“There is too much unhappiness among people who have had the surgery. Too many of them end as suicides.”
— Dr. Charles Ihlenfeld

Disturbingly, the radical left has penetrated academia so deeply that even research into the trend of regret among those that have elective gender reassignment surgery has been suppressed.

At the Bath Spa University in England, a new study that would explore the rate of people that elect to reverse back to their birth genders after reassignment procedures has been barred by the administration. Their reasoning? It could hurt someone's feelings.

From The Independent:

An academic has said he was prevented from researching people who decided to reverse their gender assignment surgery because a university said it was “politically incorrect”.

James Caspian, a psychotherapist who works with transgender and transsexual people, wanted to conduct the research for a master’s degree in counselling and psychotherapy at Bath Spa University.

His research proposal was rejected because, he said, the university found it best “not to offend people”.

“The fundamental reason given was that it might cause criticism of the research on social media and criticism of the research would be criticism of the university and they also added it was better not to offend people,” Mr Caspian told BBC Radio 4.

He added: “I was astonished at that decision. I think a university exists to encourage discussion, research, dissent even, challenging ideas that are out of date or not particularly useful.”

The university reportedly told Mr Caspian that “engaging in a potentially politically incorrect piece of research carries a risk to the university”.

Bath Spa administrators say they're currently investigating Caspian’s complaint. Of course, they won’t comment on the matter.
