A Mother's Love: Michigan Woman Dies After Choosing Her Baby's Life Over Her Own

Conservatism is all about morality. Abortion is just about the least moral thing the left champions as a 'right'. Nobody has the 'right' to kill an unborn innocent child.

Many conservatives, including noted commentator Ben Shapiro, take a firm stance against abortion except in cases that would threaten the life of the mother. In a speech earlier this year, Shapiro explained his position:

In a case where the baby threatens the life of the mother, like for example, you have a case where a woman has actual breast cancer and she needs chemotherapy and she’s pregnant, but the chemotherapy will abort the baby - which actually does happen, right? - that is a case where the mother should, I think, be able to get the treatment. That’s not the same thing as an abortion. It’s actually treating the mother for what she’s got and the byproduct is that the baby is terminated, the baby is killed.
— Ben Shapiro, March 15, University of Redlands

The hypothetical scenario Shapiro describes played out for Michigan resident Carrie DeKlyen. A deeply faithful Christian, DeKlyen was stricken with terminal brain cancer in April while pregnant.

Chemotherapy would've killed DeKlyen's baby, so she made a selfless decision, refusing treatment so her child might live.

Just one day after giving birth to a premature girl, DeKlyen passed away earlier today, surrounded by loved ones. One of her final messages was directed to her husband, Nick: "I'll see you in heaven."

“We stayed by her until she took her last breath. It’s in God’s hands now.

My wife loves the Lord and she loves her children more than anything. It’s painful, but this is what she wanted. She wanted to protect this child.”
— Nick DeKlyen

Doctors say that the timing of Life Lynn DeKlyen's birth couldn't have been more perfect — at 24 weeks old, this is the stage of development where a baby is considered 'viable,' with a good chance of survival outside of the womb.

Life Lynn is doing better than expected and, thanks to neonatal intensive care, is gaining weight and "almost breathing on her own," according to Nick.

Of course, where there is good there is also evil. Leftists began commenting on DeKlyen's decision, suggesting her decision shouldn't have been her own to make.

One user suggested that her husband should have had her "declared incompetent, take legal guardianship of her, and tell the docs to give her the chemo," adding "that's what any man who loves his wife would have done."

Another user derided DeKlyen's sacrifice, saying that "at the point when she could have terminated her pregnancy, we're talking about a clump of cells, not a baby."

At 24-weeks-old, this is apparently not a baby.

At 24-weeks-old, this is apparently not a baby.

At 24 weeks old, a baby has doubled in size. The nervous system is rapidly maturing and the brain has developed sensory capabilities — the baby can now hear sounds outside the womb. Soft cartilage has become bone and some babies suck their thumbs at this stage. The lungs have been formed and the mother will feel the baby flexing and kicking now. It is a human life, and those that advocate its death are evil.

Bless Carrie DeKlyen, for faithful in the face of death, she chose Life. May she rest in peace.

Stay alert. Stay alive.
